The annual ball has proven to be a fantastic success due to the support given by the group members and their friends over the years and this year was no exception, with the main banqueting room of Liverpool Masonic Hall filled to capacity by an attendance of 131 on the night.
Every group officer attended, as did the chairman and directors of the hall and the evening began with group chairman Mark Matthews giving a warm welcome to all present, which included the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison and his wife Maureen. Also in attendance, were Assistant Provincial Grand Master Derek Parkinson and Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Sam Robinson, accompanied by their wives Joan and Julie.
Mark also gave a particular thank you to the group secretary Bob Paterson for all his hard work with the planning and care taken in organizing such a successful event. Mark informed the brethren and guests in advance that all proceeds from the raffle would go to the Liverpool Masonic Hall Building Fund.
Prior to the meal, grace was given by Dave Johnson, who later would also return thanks. The menu consisted of prawn cocktail, breast of chicken in sauce with seasonal vegetables, strawberry gateau, cheese board and tea or coffee.
Following the meal, Mark again took to the microphone to thank the staff of the hall for their excellent serving during the meal, while chef Steve was introduced to Tony Harrison and personally thanked for his hard work in producing such an excellent meal.
During the evening, raffle tickets had been sold and income counted, which enabled Mark to request David Sayce, chairman of the building fund, to come forward to be presented with a cheque for the magnificent amount of £1,000. This was met with great applause.
With the tables cleared and replenishment of glasses complete, all settled down to a wonderful evening of entertainment provided by the superb voice and personality of Eddie Wallace. Comedian, compere, singer, and presenter, Eddie does the lot, having performed throughout the UK and Europe, including theatres, cruise ships, holiday parks, cabaret venues and even presenting his own show on Spanish television.
Being a true professional, it was a given that Eddie would deliver nothing short of a show-stopping performance on the evening and as usual he did not disappoint.
A fantastic evening for an equally fantastic and deserving cause, which sadly had to come to an end and a big thank you to all for supporting the event.
